Jersey Calf © J. PhillipsI find Jersey calves to be so endearing. The luminous eyes, the dark nose and that doe-like
look of innocence and wonder get me every time. My uncle Howard had Jersey cows and calves.
I loved going out to the barn for a visit but I always had to watch how close I got to them.
Not because they were dangerous but because they had a bad habit of catching the hem of my
cotton dress or the satin ribbon tied in a bow at the end of my braids with their tongue
and sucking on it. What a sloppy mess. | |
Corn Crib and Barn © J. PhillipsCorn Cribs are almost a thing of the past but they may still be
found dotted around the countryside in Elgin County. This image
was quickly sketched as an illustration for “Does It Pay?”. |

“Dandy Percheron Team” © J. PhillipsThis team showed at the Bayfield Fair back in the early 1980’s. Dave and I went to the fair to take photos for a painting of Tom Penhale driving his team and wagon. It was a beautiful day and we had a super time. We saw other great teams including these Percherons. A visit to a country fair like this is always enjoyable. Why don’t you see for yourself? - Jenny #010 8.5"X11" $10.00 includes HST |

Barn Lantern © J.PhillipsThis old barn lantern was made by C. T. Ham Mfg. For more than
a hundred years farmers have carried lanterns like this out in
the wee hours of the morning as they go to bring in the cows
for milking, or in the winter when the sun sets early and they
have milking and other chores to do in the barn. |

![]() GT Pickup Truck © J.PhillipsIn the 1980’s Dave and I went to the Brigden Steam Show. I would display and sell my
paintings and prints to the public outdoors. I took my 35 mm camera with me every where
looking for material to sketch and paint. I had for young children and Dave worked shift work
at Ford so I had to paint in my studio/kitchen while the kids slept and Dave worked. |
