Old Tobacco Kilns

PEN AND INK

Old Tobacco Kilns.jpg

This style of tobacco kiln may be seen throughout Elgin County although they are fast disappearing. Today it is a treat to see the dark green, red and white trimmed kilns dotting the country side. Some have fallen to disrepair while others have been torn down and replaced by metal high-tech curing sheds and others will never be replaced. Tobacco is no longer king! Whether you are a smoker or not, these kilns are a part of our agricultural history. These particular kilns were sketched in east Elgin on the way to Port Burwell. – Jenny
