Wood Beam Walking Plow
Dave and I made a day trip to the former Agricultural Museum at Milton, ON. No longer under the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture, this not-for-profit is operated as Country Heritage Park. The passionate, dedicated board of directors and the volunteers, along with various organizations like the different tractor clubs and the heavy Horse Assoc. of Ontario have done an excellent job. The admission was only $7 per adult with a senior discount that Dave and I took advantage of. The CHP hosts several annual events including a heavy horse day with demonstrations of plowing, mowing, binding, threshing and horse drawn wagon rides. We took in the antique tractor show that featured the Ford Tractors for 2010. We hopped on the tractor drawn wagons that took us around the park. There was a display of walking plows by the side of the row which included this old beam plow. Manufacturer unknown. – Jenny
There was so much to see we vowed to return another day to check out what we missed.

This D.A, Mahoney #2A Aurora was made in Cornwall and donated by the estate of Dr. Roswell Arnott. There is always something worth looking at when you visit Country Heritage Park. –Jenny

Antique Iron Plow – Country Heritage Park
If you like antique farm like I do, you will love a visit to Country Heritage Park, formerly the Agricultural Museum at Milton, Ontario, just off the 401 Highway.
This is a wonderful place to explore. Horse or tractor drawn wagons are there to give you rides around the outdoor displays or drop you off at the exhibit buildings. On one of our stops we saw this antique iron plow. Again, like so many at that time, there were no manufacturer’s marks that we could see. I loved sketching this plow. The Frost – Woods Walking Plow
In the 1970’s and ‘80’s I took my art work to the Brigden Steam show, the North Yarmouth Historical Show, Brigden, Aylmer and Wallacetown Fair and the county plowing matches. I avoided the glitzy galleries and art centers as I preferred to take my rural scenes and heavy horse paintings to country folk who were familiar with my images. We met great folks there; had good eats and found new material to sketch and paint. This series of walking plows were displayed at Brigden in the mid nineteen eighties. It took me almost twenty-five years to get around to doing pen and ink sketches of these plows. Sketching these brought many memories of grey skies and nippy temperatures and old friends. - Jenny.
Massey – Harris Walking Plow - # 51
This Massey – Harris Walking Plow is special because this particular plow was used on the back of a pickup truck in 1985 to promote the 1985 International Plowing Match held on the Braddish farm behind the Ford Motor plant at Talbotville. Brad Reives obtained this plow and has just recently finished restoring it. Brad was kind enough to bring the plow in the box of his pickup to our store so we could photograph it for my collection. McCaffery’s Drag Plow
Just south of the village of Dutton on Currie Rd., Leo McCaffery built a lovely new home set well back from Currie Rd. and accessed by a long curving lane. Leo and his son Jamie are both ‘dyed-in-the-wool’ John Deere fans. Leo made a special bed at the cusp of Currie Rd. and his lane for this old drag plow. There are no manufacturer’s markings on this iron drag plow but after it was cleaned up Leo painted it John Deere green and yellow. On your way from highway three going north on Currie Rd. to Dutton to visit my gallery, I hope, you will notice the plow on your left.
