“Elgin County Plowing Match Collection” – 2009
This print is part of my 2009 Elgin County Plowing Match Collection.
The county held their match in 2009 at the farms of Tom Bradish near Talbotville.
Dave and I got up and hurried through breakfast and gathered our cameras and loaded my scooter. We were off and what a fine day it was.
The turn out of plowmen was excellent. We had a wonderful day and these pen and ink sketches are a good record of this event. 2010’s county match was held on Sparta Line in August. We went for an hour but then had to leave to get to Milton for the heavy horse event at the County Heritage Park, but that’s another story. I loved both the antique horse plowing and the many and varied antique tractors and plows.

Ford Tractor – Steel Wheels with Cleats
Dave and I made a day trip to the former Agricultural Museum at Milton, ON. No longer under the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture, this not-for-profit is operated as Country Heritage Park. The passionate, dedicated board of directors and the volunteers, along with various organizations like the different tractor clubs and the heavy Horse Assoc. of Ontario have done an excellent job. The admission was only $7 per adult with a senior discount that Dave and I took advantage of. The CHP hosts several annual events including a heavy horse day with demonstrations of plowing, mowing, binding, threshing and horse drawn wagon rides. We took in the antique tractor show that featured the Ford Tractors for 2010. We hopped on the tractor drawn wagons that took us around the park. There was so much to see we vowed to return another day to check out what we missed. I loved the look of this grey tractor. It looked like it was well used. I have no current info on the age or model. Fill me in if you know. - Jenny

I suspect this is an early Ford N with a cover over the motor, but other than that I have no real data about this one. Anyone with knowledge please enlighten me. – Jenny
P.S. I met the owner of this unique tractor, Nick Tor, and he told me this was a 1927 Model A Ford with an ‘Otaco Kit’ – to replace the back tires with the metal wheels. Ford sold all kinds of add-ons for the model A to make the purchase of the vehicle practical for the farmer. He could use it for power with a drive belt to saw wood or run other equipment, he could work the fields, haul a wagon and then on Sunday he could clean up the car and take the family to church. What a clever practical man was Mr. Ford. Thanks for the info Nick.
