Milk Cans

PEN AND INK

Milk Cans.jpg

Returning from London, on back roads to avoid detours and construction on the 401 highway, we came across a lawn display of cream and milk cans. They were sitting on an old loading cart. Many rural farmers set out their milk cans at the end of farm lane or on a stand. A truck would come along and pick them up, then deliver the cans to a creamery or dairy. In some cases the milk cans were taken to a nearby train station. They were loaded on such a cart awaiting pick up where the final destination was a dairy or creamery in a large city or town. There was a lovely dark patina from weather and age on these well used cans.
